Minneapolis Institute of Art
From the moment you step inside the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and stand beneath the Chilhuly glass shaped like a twisted sun, it's obvious this isn't your average gallery. It's easy to loose an entire day winding your way through this museum -- past marble sculptures, art by names like Van Gough and Monet, through period rooms, and past native American bead work. The mia features exhibits from virtually every part of the world, and every period in history, but it's more than just a galley; hosting frequent lectures, films, tours, and other events, the mia is rooted in education of the arts. If you find yourself hungry, there is an on-site cafe, but it's hard to tear yourself away from all the beauty inside these walls. Oh, don't forget: the mia is free daily.
