Best Place to Buy Vinyl
Barely Brothers Records
Vinyl’s comeback has spared the Twin Cities from the once-feared barren landscape, devoid of independent record stores. Now plenty of neighborhoods have a local shop in walking distance. In preserving the past, let’s hope we can leave behind the condescension, usually from a High Fidelity-esque clerk who scoffs at your questions and rolls his eyes at your purchases. That’s not a problem at Barely Brothers. The three-year-old store’s knowledgeable owner, Mike Elias, creates a friendly atmosphere that makes this a fun place to shop. The space may not have much in the way of interior design, but it’s pleasantly well lit, easy to navigate, and has a stage where local bands perform. The cassette and CD section is small, and made up entirely of local acts. Between its selection of new and used records, and Friday nights featuring in-store DJs, vinyl is clearly the focus here.
